pink pistachio quilt – in progress

Posted in Crafts and Sewing, Monty the Cat by jennregretsnothing on November 15, 2009

I’ve decided to dig out the very first quilt top I attempted. I picked up a pre-cut Moda Sultry charm pack from a local quilting shop a couple months back…not knowing how or what is involved in quilting, but I knew I wanted to start quilting. I am self-taught when it comes to all my sewing ventures and almost always go into it completely without instruction. I pieced this without a rotary cutter! Crazy, I know! I took it out of the closet and squared it so I can start stitching a border around it. I’m thinking of a thin brown polka-dot then an old Amy Butler (?) fabric I’ve had for years. What do you think?

Find a pouty cat on the top right corner, he kept lying on the fabric for a photo op but I shooed him away.

I’m second guessing the brown strip and would love to use it as a border but I don’t have enough of it after the border. Perhaps a second trip to the quilt store to scout for more Moda Sultry fabric is needed. What do you think?

Another thing I found is a photo of Monty and I at the porch doing a little cheeztastic dance. I leave you with a portrait that says it all:

weekend crafts: sashiko embroidery

Posted in Crafts and Sewing, Food by jennregretsnothing on November 6, 2009

I just got back from dinner with Bryce and his brother. If you have not yet eaten at Hapa Izakaya in Vancouver, you’re missing out. Great fresh food, good portions, great service, good ambiance, and the strawberry sake margarita tastes great!

On weekends I try to squeeze in time for crafts, or any type of creative activity, just to get out of “work” mode. But because I am involved in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics (which is only 98 days away from today) it is becoming a bit more difficult! That’s only 13 Mondays…so much to do, so little time. Last weekend, I tried sashiko embroidery using a pattern + thread kit bought from Daiso. It’s simple, very relaxing and is potentially addicting. Here’s what I finished last week:

first attempt at sashiko embroidery.

This weekend feels like some Christmas crafting. Family and friends may just receive handmade goodies this year…and they better like it, or else.

It has come to my attention that this blog has been sadly abandoned for no particular reason. Though only my two loyal readers may have noticed, it is reason enough to revive it. Keep an eye on I Regret Nothing in the next coming weeks for new subjects, new approach, more photos.
